Punch Biopsy of the Skin

A punch biopsy is a type of skin biopsy. A skin biopsy is performed to diagnose a mole or other skin growth or a skin condition, such as a rash. When a mole or other marking has changed color, shape or size, a skin biopsy is recommended.

A Punch biopsy is used to remove small deeper lesions and diagnose rashes on the skin. Using a pencil like instrument, our doctor will remove a small piece of tissue from the area of interest.

Once the tissue is removed, the biopsy specimen is sent to the laboratory for further evaluation.

Ingrown Toenail Removal

An ingrown nail occurs when the skin on the sides of a nail grows over the edges of the nail, or when the nail itself grows into the skin. The result is nail penetration into the skin, which results in an infection, swelling and pain.

When the ingrown nail is severe, or there’s intense pain and swelling minor surgical intervention is recommended. This can be correct in under an hour through an in-office procedure performed by the doctor under a local anesthetic. Using special tools the doctor will cut the nail and then apply a chemical to prevent the nail from growing this way.

Get rid of your pain immediately. Call us to schedule an appointment.

Fusiform Excision

The fusiform excision technique (also referred to as the “Elliptical Excision”) is a common procedure used to remove skin and subcutaneous lesions. It offers rapid diagnosis and treatment. Fusiform excisions are recommended when a patient has deep dermal lesions, deep inflammatory diseases, atypical pigmented lesions, and lesions requiring full thickness removal.

Fusiform excision is highly important when dealing with malignant melanoma. It is the procedure of choice to confirm clinically suspicious primary melanoma.

An incision is made into the skin (which resembles a biconcave lens) with about a 3:1 length-to-width ratio, underlying the tangential wound edges. This type of incision would prevent an excessive amount of raised tissue at the ends, allowing for the incision to close neatly without excess tissue.

Fusiform Excisions are commonly performed in our office. Call us today to schedule an appointment with one of our experience doctors.

Shave Biopsy

A Shave Biopsy is a procedure that removes skin tumors and other skin growths. The process involves a series of fine slicing along the surface of the dermal lesion to remove any remaining tumor cells from the base of the wound. A low voltage current is used to “shave the growth off the skin,” and will go into the depth of the lesion in attempt to remove all the cells and prevent them from returning.

The shave excision is a simple and quick in –office procedure. It is less expensive and simpler than a full thickness excision and does not require stitches. Additionally, due to the electrosurgical smoothing of the wound edges, scarring is minimal!

Incision and Drainage of Skin Abcess

An Incision and Drainage of Skin Apsis allows one of our office professionals to drain the pus from a cyst on your skin, by cutting making a small cut into the skin and draining the matter. This is general performed under a local anesthesia and as a result is pain-free to you.

It is important to have this procedure completed in an office, as your incision will only start to heal after it has been drained, with the help of antibiotics, to be prescribed by a physician.

Schedule an appointment today, and our doctors will have you healed in no time.

Endermoid Cyst Removal

An Epidermoid cyst is a benign cyst usually found on the skin. Endermoid cysts are the most common type of cysts.

A typical epidermoid cyst looks like a raised, round bump. If you touch it, you can typically feel the cyst wall and move the cyst around under the skin fairly easily.

These can be painful and unpleasant and we want to be sure to get this removed for you as soon as possible. This quick and easy surgical procedure is performed right in our office. Call us today to set up your appointment.

Joint Aspiration Injection

Joint aspiration and injections are used for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes to treat inflamed joints, arthritis, frozen shoulder or other common injuries.

Joint aspiration is used to obtain joint fluid for analysis in the lab to define causes of joint swelling or arthritis, such as infection, gout, and rheumatoid disease. Joint aspiration is also helpful in relieving joint swelling and pain.

Under a local anesthetic a needle with a syringe attached is inserted within the joint and fluid is sucked back into the syringe. The fluid is then sent to the laboratory for testing.

Similarly, the joint injection procedure is used in the treatment of inflammatory joint conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, gout, tendinitis, bursitis and occasionally osteoarthritis. A hypodermic needle is injected into the affected joint where it delivers a dose of an anti-inflammatory agent.

This injection is commonly performed in our office. Call us today to schedule an appointment.

Trigger Point Injection

Trigger point injection (TPI) is used to treat particularly painful areas of muscle that contain trigger points, or knots of muscle that form when muscles do not relax. A normal muscle contracts and relaxes, and a knot forms when muscles fail to relax forming a trigger point. Such trigger points may irritate the surrounding nerves and scar tissue, loss of range of motion, and weakness may develop over time.

Under a local anesthetic, a small needle with medication is inserted into the trigger point.  The injected medication inactivates the trigger point and in turn alleviates pain.

Call us today to schedule your TPI.
